BIOGRAPHY

Known for his sincere artistry and polished technique, Christopher Knopp is a versatile Canadian pianist who is quickly becoming an in-demand international collaborator. After performing as an accompanist in the Mirjam Helin Competition, he will have recitals in the summer of 2024 with his duo partner Jingjing Xu, and then begins his residency at the Accademia del Maggio in Firenze in November.

Christopher’s training began in solo piano, but he has worked as a collaborative pianist since the age of 12, performing in church services and local festivals regularly. When he moved to Montreal in 2017, Christopher was inspired by his primary mentor, Michael McMahon, to study opera and art song, which led to his participation in the first edition of the prestigious Résidence en Accompagnement Vocale de McGill et de l’Université de Montréal. Since then, he has worked with leading masters in the field, including Graham Johnson, James Vaughan, Helmut Deutsch, John Churchwell, Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles and Jeff Cohen. Christopher has worked as a freelance vocal coach since then, successfully preparing young singers for opera roles, recitals, auditions and competitions.

As a solo pianist, Christoher won fourth prize in the 2022 edition of the Concours Prix d’Europe, and has performed concerti by Mozart, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and Saint-Saens. He also regularly collaborates as a chamber musician, and is a passionate supporter of music as a living art, having commissioned works by young composers for solo piano and lied duo.
